Setting up a CNAME record for any of the domain addresses or subdomains you have within a hosting account will enable you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain name will lose all its records - A, MX and so forth, and will take the records of the domain address it's being forwarded to. In this light, you simply can't set up a CNAME record to point your domain to a third-party provider and retain a working email service with the first hosting provider. It is also very important to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it's commonly mistaken for the A record of the Internet domain being redirected. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain name which you own through one provider to the servers of some other provider in case you have created a website with the latter. That way, the Internet site will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.
